Dealing with difficult people at work. Communication coaching - a case study

You are struggling to get on with a colleague, you find them impossible, unreasonable, they are making life at work a nightmare. What do you do? We all talk to our friends, our family. That's lovely, but how often does it change things?

Now imagine talking to someone who is an expert in resolving issues between people. Here is an example of when we at The Resolution Pod did just that.

1. THE ISSUE
A has started working less flexibly than before. The business found that problematic. It initiated a performance conversation and required A to change.

A responded by alleging this was a breach of his contract and he could not be forced to change his working hours.

2. WHAT WE DID

We helped the business prepare the conversation with A to help achieve best outcome.
We created a script.
We helped rehearse the conversation so it would land well.

3. HOW IT RESOLVED THE ISSUE
The conversation with A was positive. In this case, it actually quickly moved them towards a mutually agreed exit on amicable terms.

Simple as that: 1,2,3. Done.
